Teen killed when bike hits cane trailer

A teenage boy was killed in an accident in the Corozal District on Friday night. Around 8:00, fifteen year old Luis Angel Portillo was riding his bicycle by the police station on the San Narciso Road when he collided with a moving vehicle. Octavio Ek was driving his tractor with two trailers loaded with sugar cane, when the boy apparently lost control of his bike and rode in between the two trailers and was run over. Portillo was seriously injured and died upon arriving at the Corozal Town Hospital. The postmortem examination revealed that he died of hypovolemic shock resulting from internal bleeding. Though no charges have been filed against Ek, police are continuing their investigations.
