New roundabout means month-long detours
If you drive a car and live or work on the southside of Belize City you may want to take note of this next story.

“Starting Monday, the noise in this area usually associated with traffic will be replaced with the industrial sounds of heavy duty equipment. The junction at the corner of Central American Boulevard, Cemetery Road, and the Western Highway will be closed to facilitate the construction of a new roundabout.”
If you are travelling on the Western Highway and want to make it to the Northern Highway, as soon as you reach Belize’s city limits, take Western Avenue and then proceed to Mahogany Street which will lead you to the boulevard. And if you want to get from the Western Highway to Port Loyola, simply drive down the Western Highway until you get to the junction with Faber’s Road and proceed to the boulevard. If your goal is to get downtown, follow the same Faber’s Road route until you reach the boulevard then continue to Caesar Ridge Road which will take you downtown.
Now for Motorists who are coming from the direction of the Northern Highway and want to get to other parts of the City. If you want to reach the Western Highway, you simply drive down Mahogany Street until you get to Western Avenue. Western Avenue will get you smack in front of Lord Ridge Cemetery, and take you to all destinations west. If you want to get from the Northern Highway to Port Loyola, you must drive Mahogany Street to Western Avenue, and then take the Western Highway to its junction with Faber’s Road, which leads you into the Port area. To get from the Northern Highway to downtown, simply avoid using streets on the South Side.
Easier to remember is moving from Port Loyola to other parts of Belize City. If you want to reach the Northern Highway simply proceed down Central American Boulevard. And if you want to get to the Western Highway just take Faber’s Road Extension, which will lead you west and out of the city limits.
Better still, if you want to avoid confusion, you might just want to walk. Reporting for News 5, Jose Sanchez.
