Cayo Northeast Area Rep., Says Bullet Tree Road Needs Upgrading
During Friday’s Sitting of the House of Representatives, Area representative for Cayo Northeast Orlando ‘Landy’ Habet brought up an issue regarding the Bullet Tree Road in his division. According to Habet, access to the San Ignacio Hospital which is located along the Bullet Tree Road poses challenges and risks to drivers. He says the conditions of the road are so bad that drivers need to exercise extreme caution. Habet says that the promise to fix the road was made by Health Minister Pablo Marin.

“Madam Speaker in March of this year during budge the honorable Minister of Health mentioned to me that they had secured monies and they had plans in place to fix this road and the esplanade in front of the hospital by the end of this year. Lo and behold we are almost at the end of the year and this has not been done. Monday Madam Speaker I went with one of my colleagues to do some measurements because I know that we had a House meeting today so I can present some kind of a budget so we can understand that it’s not a big project and it can be done if there is the will to do so. Lo and behold two days later a machine was there grading the place, graded off all the stones and made mess of the whole place especially due to the rain. Madam Speaker this is the situation of the road leading up to the hospital. This is mushy. It is forty five degree gradient according to the surveyor and so vehicle cannot go up the road to the hospital and when they come down the slide right on the main road which is the Bullet Tree Road. We did some measurements and it is a little bit over five hundred, five thousand square yards that would have to be cemented or paved.Estimates that I have from the contractor Madam Speaker is for about eight hundred and forty give cubic yards of material.”
Pablo Marin, Minister of Health
“On a point of order, I did mentioned to the honorable member that we are going to, that we have funds but for inside the compound not on the road. The Ministry of Health does not have anything to do with the road but yes, I did mention that we have funds and the funds are coming it but due to procedures it is going to take a little while but we are going to fix inside.”
