Agriculturists meet in Orange Walk
Despite dramatic gains by the tourism industry, agriculture remains the largest sector of Belize’s economy, both in terms of revenue and employment. Today agriculturists from across the nation gathered in San Estevan in the Orange Walk District for the Ministry of Agriculture’s annual review. Over the course of the two-day meeting officials from each district will report on work carried out during the past year. Opening the meeting was Minister of Agriculture Daniel Silva, who reminded farmers that they are in an important business and must do all they can to increase production. Also on hand was Deputy Prime Minister Johnny Briceno, who distributed newly acquired digital cameras to each district agricultural officer. The cameras will be used to document the officers’ work and share their knowledge with the public.
