Elderly Man Drowns in San Antonio, Toledo

Joseph Myvett

An elderly man lost his life over the weekend in San Antonio Village in the Toledo District. Police do not suspect foul play in the death eighty-eight-year-old Ponciano Coy, who was discovered face down in a shallow creek with apparent injuries to his face. Reports are that on Friday night, an intoxicated Coy left home and his body was discovered around three o’clock on Saturday afternoon in the creek. It is believed that Coy fell into the creek and drowned. ACP Joseph Myvett gives an update.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“On Saturday afternoon, sometime after four p.m., Punta Gorda Police was alerted of a body of a male person in a creek in San Antonio Village, Toledo District. Upon arrival, they observed the body of Ponciano Coy, eighty-eight years of San Antonio Village. What police know so far is that on Friday, Mister Coy left his home and returned later Friday night—apparently, under the influence of alcohol—he then left to an unknown destination thereafter and it was not until Saturday afternoon that his body was discovered in the creek. At this point in time, no foul play is suspected; however, an investigation is still being carried out.”
