Two arrested for chain snatching

Police have arrested and charged Maurice Usher and Hubert Sterling, both eighteen, of Belize City with theft and damage to property. The charges arose out of an incident Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. in which the two men, who were on bicycles, allegedly grabbed Alicia Marsden, an eighteen year old U.B. student by the neck, in an attempt to steal her three gold chains. Marsden was assisted by Louis Chulin, a friend she was walking with along University Drive, to stave off the thieves. However, Chulin’s act of bravery backfired as his four hundred dollar gold chain was snatched from his neck in the process. The suspects will appear in court on Friday.
