Water Continues to be Ferried to Caye Caulker
While work is underway to refill a hundred fifty thousand gallon water reservoir in Caye Caulker, Belize Water Services Limited is still sending out water trucks via barges to the island, to distribute, as well as replenish its supply.
Dave Pascascio, Operations Manager, B.W.S.L.
“Yesterday when we sent out the first barge of water, we collaborated with the chairlady and we asked her to identify all the stakeholders that have storage. We deployed one of the tankers to fill their storage and then we put one of the tankers into our storage. So had storage had the capability of supplying themselves and then we started putting water into the distribution system for those who have storage, so we’re trying to attack it from two modes. We were successful at that last night. This morning, well today we sent out the second barge, but that is going directly into our storage so we can distribute at higher pressures and build storage quicker. We are working on sending out another barge later today and that same barge that is there now will come in, load and return. We will not stop sending out water by barge until probably over the weekend or until we have storage at least half.”
