FAO helps food production

Story Picture
The Government of Belize and the World Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO, have signed three agreements that will provide more than seven hundred thousand dollars for the development of food production. Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Cooperatives Daniel Silva, signed on behalf of the government.

“These three projects are very exciting for Belize. One of them is to get data collection from farmers in Belize, the other one concerns better technical support when it comes to aquaculture. As we know, the shrimp culture industry in Belize is becoming the largest, in fact this year we might be number one or number two in exports. Again we’re hoping to work very closely with FAO in trying to do better management, especially in the health aspect of it. Belize is a country free of the white spot and we hope to keep it that way. We like to thank FAO and especially the representative, Mr. Bowen, for all the support they’ve given us.”

Signing for the FAO was representative David Bowen. The organisation is also discussing the possibility of providing five hundred and forty thousand dollars for Hurricane Keith Rehabilitation.
