Karaoke competition looking for talent
The form of entertainment called karaoke has been around Belize for many years, but has never been as popular as today. Riding the crest of that wave is a new TV show. Hosted by veteran broadcaster William Neal, Channel 5’s “Karaoke TV” is looking for talent.
Williams Neal, Host, Karaoke TV
“Karaoke Television was really born out of the Gimme 5 karaoke night that we had that went across really well with people in general. As you know, karaoke is something that is really taking off in Belize, and the idea of putting it on television is really, not just in an effort to highlight people out there who have talent and not necessarily singing talent, but performing talent, just getting on the stage, a lot of personality, making people feel the electricity they exhibit on stage. So it’s really in an effort to have fun, fun, fun.”

“Is this just for people from Belize City?”
William Neal
“It’s actually a countrywide competition. It will run for thirteen weeks starting the twentieth of this month. We’re looking basically for sixty contestants from across the country and just anybody who’s interested and think that they don’t mind having fun and being laughed at and being silly in an effort to win some fabulous prizes. Just come on down and be a part of Karaoke Television.”
“To be a contestant on Karaoke Television, it’s really simple. You just show up at Channel 5 this Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. and you’ll work along with Richard “The King of Karaoke” Villanueva and you get with him, select your song and you perform it. Whether you know the song really, really well doesn’t really matter because it’s all about having fun. That’s what we hope to do with Karaoke Television, have a lot of fun and bring a lot of laughs to a lot of people.”
The show, which debuts February twentieth, will feature six contestants each week. A panel of judges will declare a winner, who will then come back to compete in a semifinal round, with four finalists going up for the top prize on the night of May fifteenth. Karaoke TV will air live each Tuesday night from the Bellevue Hotel’s King Street Station. If you want to audition for one of the sixty contestant spots, just come to Channel 5 this Saturday afternoon at one.
