Section 53 Ruling Will Lead to Higher Numbers of HIV Cases says NEAB

N.E.A.B. today made claims on a number of issues in regards to the decision by the Court of Appeal to uphold the CJ’s ruling on Section Fifty-three. The Association is linking homosexuality to an increase in the number of persons living with HIV.  With no evidence at hand, according to Secretary George Ferrar, with the ruling on Section Fifty-Three which now legalizes carnal intercourse between two consenting adults of the same sex, more people will engage in gay sex and contract the deadly virus.

George Ferrar, Secretary, NEAB

“With homosexuality being normalized here a lot of more people are going to try it and they are going to very likely contract AIDS and be a big burden on the health system, drive up cost of health in Belize which everybody is going to pay for.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Are you saying that because of Section Fifty three ruling that more people will be having gay sex acts and therefore there will be a spike in HIV numbers?”

George Ferrar

George Ferrar

“This is what happens when an act becomes legal then people can begin to consider it normal. Your own children in the school can be subject to teaching that homosexuality is normal, try it out even ages down to seven have been taught that in school in the U.S. and other countries. Do you want that to happen here? Do you want that to happen to you kids?”

Hipolito Novelo

“How do you tie gay people having gay sex and not using protection because it seems like you are assuming gay people won’t use protection? You are using numbers in the U.S. and other countries.”

George Ferrar

“Well, we haven’t seen that happen here. We don’t have enough statistics here yet but we see that happening on other countries. We don’t want to happen here.”

Scott Stirm

Pastor Scott Stirm, Vice President, NEAB

“Human behaviour is human behaviour.”

Hipolito Novelo

“But you are separating gay people from straight people.”

Pastor Scott Stirm

“The statistics are, yes.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Statistics in Belize, do you know how many gay people have HIV/AIDS in terms of increase numbers this year, last year, 2018?”

Scott Stirm

“Not currently. Not right now. But what we stating the pattern and trends in other nations that have legalized the same exact things that have been legalized in Belize. So I think that it is very, very safe grounds that to predict, human behaviour is human behaviour. It is simply the power of suggestion.”

Hipolito Novelo

“And I would imagine that to protect human life the church would prepare, or promote contraceptives, protection, condoms.”

Scott Stirm

“That is a very nice trick question.”
