Basketball Cup this Weekend in the City!

The Ahmadiyya Basketball League is hosting a basketball cup featuring local teams, as well as teams from neighbouring Mexico. The event kicks off on Friday night and will continue through to Sunday for the finals. President of the Muslim Community Naveed Mangla shares the details of the event.

“This weekend we have something called the Ahmadiyaa Basketball Cup. This is the first time we are doing this. We have twenty-five or thirty teams coming from across the country, as well as Mexico. It ranges in different categories for age wise distributed and we have kids that are U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19. We also have a men’s open category and we have a girl’s category for the U-15 and U-17 also. The whole objective of this is to unite the youth in healthy competition and we are requesting anybody interested in coming to join the competition from all over the country, they can come to Swift Hall starting from tonight at six p.m. The official opening of this cup will be tomorrow at nine p.m. at Swift Hall. The league will be running at three venues; the swift hall; the hub and the bird’s isle. On Sunday, we will have the finals starting at nine in the morning and that will be at the Civic. All our venues and games will be free of charge.”

 

The League will be awarding trophies and medals at the Civic Center following the finals on Sunday. If you have a team interested in participating, you are asked to get in touch with the Ahmadiyya Basketball League via Facebook.
