2 Candidates Withdraw from U.D.P. Convention Race, but Bev Williams In It to Win It

Beverly Williams

The U.D.P. national convention is exactly one month away from today, on February night, and the machinery is in full steam for those persons contesting a spot on the party’s executive. But two candidates, namely Senator Doctor Carla Barnett and Clifford “Boss P” Peters, who were running for party chairman and deputy chairman, respectively, have pulled out of the race.  As such, the battle for the chairmanship will be between Attorney General Mike Peyrefitte and John Castillo, while former chairman, Alberto August and Belmopan Mayor Khalid Belisle will go head to head for the post as deputy chair of the U.D.P.  Today, when News Five had a one-on-one with Minister Bev Williams, who is also in the running for second deputy leader, she says she is in it to win it.

Beverly Williams, Candidate, 2nd Deputy Leader, U.D.P.

“Minister Bev is right in it to win it and there is no backing out. I don’t know why or what happened—you will have to ask them. I know one person cited it was for a personal decision; that’s all I know. I am in my constituency, I am worried about my constituency and I am working hard towards February ninth. Most people know that I’ve been a public officer for some thirty-eight years; I’ve worked in the public service and the very day I entered politics, my speech was always the same, my information to the people I visit. I have been a public officer; I am very experienced and trained. I know what to do, I have the connects in Belmopan—I know where to go get it, so just help me to be of service to you. That’s all I have been all my life, a public servant, for thirty-eight years.”
