Mike Peyrefitte to be Endorsed as U.D.P. Chairman

The chairmanship of the United Democratic Party goes to Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte after challengers Doctor Carla Barnett and John Castillo withdrew from the race ahead of the February ninth U.D.P. convention.  Uncontested, Peyrefitte will now be endorsed for that position and he already has plans for bringing the ruling party back together following the election of a new leader on that Sunday.

“Well I was informed by the secretariat that as of yesterday Mr. John Castillo had withdrawn his bid for the chairmanship of the U.D.P., following Dr. Barnett who had withdrew her bid the day before which leaves only me which means that on February ninth I will be endorsed as the new U.D.P. chairman.”

“Have you had time to kind of look at what your vision for the party is insofar as going forward and of course leading up to November 2020?”

“Absolutely, I was thinking about it before I ran because that’s the platform upon which you make your bid.  So we have our vision, our general vision in place and we will be meeting with the team before February ninth so that we can know our way forward.  I’m not waiting for February ninth to get the work going.  February ninth I want to hit the ground running from in the evening with the new party leader, the new deputy, the new vice chair and the other people running.  So we are ready, we have to sit down with a number of different arms in the party, the PR group, the secretariat, Wave Radio, everything and formulate the strategy which we will deploy to insure another U.D.P. victory in November 2020.”

“It would have seemed as if though there would have been a chasm within the party insofar as the various positions to be filled, yours as the chairman included.  But now that you are being endorsed as the chairman it seems as if though the healing would be a lot quicker.  Can you speak on what that perceived notion would be?”

“Well they’re always chasms in the U.D.P., far less in the U.D.P. than the P.U.P., I can tell you that.  But indeed, that’s one of the main functions of the chairman.  The main function of the chairman, in my view, is to ensure that everybody in the party has one vision and one direction and we’re moving as a complete team.  It’s no secret for me to say that we are engaged in an intense and emotional campaign, especially for the leadership position.”
