Is the P.U.P. Ready for General Elections?
General elections are to take place sometime this year so there is a guessing game as to specifically when. While we were with P.U.P. Leader John Briceño today, we asked him about the readiness of his party whenever elections are called. The Prime Minister in waiting says that there are four conventions pending, including one for the Fort George and Queen Square divisions. As you know the past PM, Said Musa is the current area rep for Fort George, while the sitting PM is in Queen Square.
John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition
“We as a party have been preparing since the new registration started out; we have been out there getting our supporters to register and encouraging all Belizeans to register, even though that will not support us. I think it is the bedrock of our democracy that you register and that you can vote and I encourage everybody to register. As a party, we have been organizing. As a party we have only two more…well three areas that we need to have conventions for standard bearers which is Fort George, Cayo West—it is four—Cayo West, Queen Square and then Orange Walk Central where I represent. We hope that we can get that done shortly, within a month or two. But we are ready. We are prepared, we are organizing and we have every confidence that Belizeans are tired of the corruption, they are tired of the incompetence, they are tired of the arrogance and they are tired of this despair that we have in this country, this malaise that this country is not going in the right direction. They need hope, and they see hope in a government led by the People’s United Party.”
