P.U.P. Supports Equal Opportunities Bill in Principle

John Briceño

P.U.P. Leader John Briceño also spoke briefly today on the proposed Equal Opportunities Bill for which consultations start over the weekend. While he says that a draft copy of the proposed legislation has not been disclosed to him, he heard from the Speaker of the House, Laura Longsworth, who is one of the principals involved in the process as Chair of the AIDS commission.  Briceño says that in principle he has no objections.

John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition

“The speaker, honourable Laura Longsworth, I think have called my office. They want to meet with us to be able to discuss the bill. We have not seen the bill, but I can tell you on principle, we do support equality in our country; that there should be no discrimination based on sex, race or political affiliations or whatsoever it is. So on principle it is something that we support, but we would like to see the bill to ensure that that is what we have in the bill, but we have no seen it as yet.”
