Authorities to crack down on reckless bike riders
In crime news investigators continue to search for clues and suspects in the theft of high-powered weapons from the police and BDF arsenals. No arrests, however, are reported. In Belize City no charges have been filed against Oscar Orellano, the driver of the bus that killed bicyclist Steven Bent on Monday morning. Testimony obtained thus far from witnesses indicates that the bus driver was not at fault. The tragedy has prompted authorities to take a harder look at the often reckless way in which bike riders roam the city. Beginning Wednesday morning police and traffic wardens will begin a campaign against such common–and dangerous–practices as riding two on a bike, riding up stop, weaving across traffic and the increasingly noticeable habit of men and women riding with infants in one arm and trying to control the bike with the other.
