Palacio shines for Celtics

Story Picture
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’re locked into that busy frequency called Sports Monday. After it’s first regular season loss last week, Juventus of Orange Walk rolled into town yesterday at the behest of Acros of Belize City, team with a suspect record despite its playoff ambitions.

We open to Danny Diego’s Belize City debut in a Juventus uniform and tries to earn his keep with this header that goes wide. However, ten minutes in, its Sylvan Lyons who gets to shine as he out motors two Juventus defenders including Pablo Madrid, and with a deft left foot touch shakes cords for an Acros 1-zip lead. Juventus looks for the immediate reply off this corner kick, but the subsequent header simply can’t find the target.

It’s back to the aerial attack for the visitors, and again they fail to impress the scoreboard.

For this Juventus player, his attempt at possession leads to a smack to the jaw from Francis Arzu right foot–but it was without malicious intentions–both would continue.

Meanwhile, Danny Diego looks to be the man, but his shot would have had to be perfect to score from this acute angle and at the half the stove is still cooking with a 1-zip lead.

Out of intermission it’s a determined Juventus looking for the equalizer, but Frankie “Butta” Ferguson makes it look too easy. This time it’s Luis “Chino” Briceno searching for the Juventus goal, but again it’s Ferguson time.

Now it’s Landi Pinelo’s turn to help his team. But after a nice maneuver, he misses the target from pointblank range.

At the other end Francis Arzu fires the left foot with bad intentions, but the keeper makes the stop. Talk about squandering an opportunity, Myrih Caliz can almost shake hands with the keeper and fails to get the ball into the sticks and then misses an open goal; too bad in two tries.

It’s more pressure from the O.W. team, but it’s also more tough defence from the city team. At least Landi Pinelo won’t be able to deny, he had two clear scoring chances, but come up empty both times.

And when the long whistle sounds it brings Juventus its second defeat in two weeks and Acros gets a big win.

In other scores from around the league, Lazio Jumex picked off Griga Tropical 2-1, Kulture Yabra sailed away with a 1-zip W against caye Caulker Turquoise. Sagitun and Builders Bandits battled to a 1-all draw. Real Verdes hammered Yabra Dolphins in an 8-2 round, and Metro Stars jerked Jube Santa Elena to a 4-1 tune.

Turning to other news, if you’ve been asking how’s Milton Palacio doing with the Boston Celtics, well last night he came up with a second incredible buzzer beating 3-pointer. This time it came at the end of first half play, but the Celtics nevertheless went on to win 103-82 on the Cleveland Cavaliers. All we can say, is Milt keep on shining.
