Equal Opportunity Bill Consultation Heads South

A public consultation led by the National AIDS Commission and the Ministry of Human Development is underway at the SJC Auditorium tonight where the topic of discussion continues to be the Equal Opportunities Bill.  We will have more on tonight’s meeting in our newscast on Friday.  But on Wednesday night in Punta Gorda, the PG Sporting Complex had a packed audience where a presentation on the advantages of the proposed legislation was met with a staunch religious position in respect of gender definition.  We’ll show you a reaction that had the crowd in attendance cheering on the unwavering belief of one clergyman.

“Page twelve of this law, definition of gender.  Listen to the definition of gender in this bill.  Gender identity means gender related identity, appearance or mannerisms or other gender related characteristics of a person whether by way of medical intervention or not, with or without regard to that person’s designated sex at birth.  So all of a sudden now we become God, when God in the very beginning created male and female…  But all of a sudden now, we sit down and we draft up a bill that gender doesn’t mean male and female, that gender means anything else.  Something is wrong when you listen to it, it says here with our without regard to that person’s designated sex at birth.  That’s why God put a specific order in you that when you’re born you know whether da wahn bwai or you know whether da wahn gial.  You know whether da male or you know whether da female…  And the very preamble of our constitution says that we believe in God.  The other night I was listening to you Mr. Consultant and you said which God?  It’s the Judeo Christian God; we noh have no problem with that.”
