PM Barrow Responds to Allegations made by Leader of the Opposition

Dean Barrow

In his New Year’s Day address, the Leader of the Opposition, John Briceño made bold allegations that cabinet ministers were complicit in the landing of drug planes which in 2019 were plenty. The Attorney General confronted John Briceño, demanding proof or an apology for what, he said, were slanderous claims.  Prime Minister Dean Barrow, referencing a News Five article, also responded to the Leader of the Opposition during his press conference on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I am not like the Leader of the Opposition who came with this foolishness that he has credible evidence about the U.D.P. being involved in plane landing. I meant to talk but I won’t say ‘tell it to your pa’. I meant to get into that and to make the point what the U.S. Chargé said about the American’s plan for Belize and drug fighting and how they are getting a Belize official to be stationed, attached to their inter-agency unit to deal with the tracking of planes. You think the man would have collaborate with us, embed D.E.A. agents here if they have any sense that there was any slacking of will on the part of this government or worse that any official of this government was involved? Briceño needs to tighten up. All thought be fair, maybe fair in love and war but not in politics. You owe a duty to Belize not to tarnish its good name. When you think you said and think that you are hurting the U.D.P. You are not hurting the U.D.P.  You are hurting Belize. And you have not a basis for it and all the evidence points to the contrary.”
