Santa Cruz Land Woes Continue
Battle for control over the Santa Cruz Village Expansion project continues in the south. We first reported the issue in January 2019 when a public meeting was held to clarify certain concerns raised by villagers with regards to the project. One of those concerns was that the U.D.P. Stann Creek West Standard Bearer Ivan William is attempting to take control of the project. That, according to Chairman Vincent Scott, is still the case and he wants the Minister of Land Hugo Patt to intervene and safeguard the six-hundred and sixty-three lots that have been surveyed.
Vincent Scott, Chairman of Santa Cruz Village
“We are hearing news of a meeting that Hugo Patt is suppose to come to the village on Sunday. I am stating to everybody right now from Santa Cruz and the surrounding villages that we will be having a protest on that same day. We are having a lot of land issues in the village and we need to hear something from the Minister that he could address the problems that we are facing.”

“What does Mr. Williams have to do with the project?”
Vincent Scott
“I don’t know. That is what I want to know and that is why we are trying to get an explanation.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Wouldn’t it be better to be part of that meeting rather than protesting to get answers and explanation that you are seeking?”
Vincent Scott
“That is why I am doing this today and try to get a response back to see if it is something that we can sit down and talk about.”
