Big guns missing from police armoury
With tensions on Belize City’s streets running so high, the news received this afternoon from police headquarters is the equivalent of trying to put out this morning’s fire with a tanker full of gasoline. It seems that on Monday morning when officers passed by the armoury at the Police Academy in Belmopan, they noticed that the door was open and the two padlocks which normally secure it were missing. A check of the inventory revealed that enough high-powered weapons were missing to overthrow a small country, let alone fight a minor gang war. Included on the list are a pair of tech nine machine pistols, four sterling submachine guns, four M-16 rifles and for good measure a pump action shotgun. The man with a lot of questions to answer is the officer in charge of the armoury, thirty-four year old Assistant Inspector of Police, Roy Joseph. It is not known if any of the missing tech nine’s were involved in Monday’s murder of two children in Belize City.
