Yabra and Acros draw at MCC

Story Picture
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’re in tuned to this latest version of Sports Monday. Kulture Yabra of Belize City found itself matched up against turf rivals Acros for a second Sunday in a row. Would they be able to repeat last week’s big W.

We open to Hugo Ortega moving against “Butta” Ferguson in the Acros goal, but the keeper makes a brave stop.

Two minutes later David McCauley gets this open look at goal and he knows he should have done better on this golden opportunity. On this press goalkeeper gets timely defensive help as Acros continue to weather the furious Yabra charge.

It’s more Yabra offence, this time from the left side, but it only provides “Butta” with the opportunity to shine and he does-twice.

Folks in this battle of David and Gigante there are no winners as both get chased, although El Gigante showed a little more Hollywood. The Kulture goalkeeper Willie Bo finally comes into the picture when he has to leave his goal and commit the foul to stop the offence.

Acros then start pushing forward and it’s a good looking left foot shot that screams past Willie Bo’s goal. It’s more pressure on Willie Bo when Francis Arzu smashes this left foot between the sticks, but the goalkeeper comes up with the save.

At the other end Tilliman Nunez fires, but Ferguson is on his game today. Indeed Yabra looks truly potent right here as Nunez wheels and deals to David McCauley, but he misses the target and at the half we have a scoreless ballgame.

In the second half play this attack by Acros looks good, but at the and there’s simply no finish. It’s a harrowing time for Willie Bo when this long spot kick drops in front of the goal, but he escapes unscathed.

Downfield Paulie Bradley then unleashes a right foot inside the eighteen, but its right at Ferguson. And if you think Frankie Ferguson is not on his game today, you’re dead wrong as he demonstrates to Kello Leslie.

Now its Francis Arzu with the opportunity to give Acros the win, but Willie Bo makes a beautiful save and when the long whistle screams, it brings a nil-nil final settlement that gives both camps with a point apiece.

In other results from around the league, Builders Bandits dumped Juventus 1-zip. Jube Santa Elena won for only the second time this season beating Texaco Dolphins 2-1. Real Verdes bombed Caye Caulker Turquoise 5-1, Sagitun and Lazio Jumex struggled to a 2-all stalemate, while at Dangriga Metro Stars held Griga Tropical to a 1-1 draw.

In the Belize District football results, ASC United hurt Hattieville 2-1, K & M and Caye Caulker rallied to a 1-1 draw and Mayflower Lake held Gracie Rock to a 1-1 tie.

In juvenile football play, which was staged Mahogany Strikers field on Sunday, the under-13 Raptors rallied past Mahogany Strikers 1-nil. At under-13, Ajax Paradise did a number on Brown Bombers to a 3-2 tune. Brown Bombers then defaulted to Mahogany Strikers at under-15 play. At under-17 play, Brown Bombers came out big time to hurt the Raptors 4-3 and in the final, under-17 match-up; it was Mahogany Strikers-2, Ebony Lake-0. And yes the children are sure having fun with this Belize Youth Soccer League competition currently in session at the various venues inside Belize City on Sundays. Hey support it.
