Missing soldier found safe and sound
A BDF soldier who was reported lost near the Guatemalan border has been found safe and sound. Private Marvin Card became separated from his fourteen-man patrol around dusk on Friday and remained missing until today. Card, rather than try to find his way back to his base camp six kilometres inside Belize, elected to stay in the jungle near the illegal Guatemalan settlement at Machaquila, because he knew that Belizean and international personnel would be arriving there at some time to survey the border. That time did not come until today, and when Card saw the helicopter land with the survey party, he reported to CEO in the Foreign Ministry, David Gibson. Card, in good health and only a little bit hungry, is currently being debriefed at Price Barracks. Meanwhile, the team from the Pan American Institute of Geography and History accompanied by Belizean and Guatemalan officials have been verifying the border markers and illegal Guatemalan settlements in Belize.
