Two kids killed in gang style hit
It was the kind of crime that makes us ashamed to be a member of Belizean society, if not the entire human race. Two Belize City children will not get a chance to grow up as their lives were cut short this afternoon in a hail of gunfire. News 5’s Jose Sanchez was quickly on the scene and reports that the deaths were not an accident.
Jose Sanchez, Reporting
The two kids were gunned down gangland style shortly before 3:00 in a yard on Mahogany Street Extension. When News 5 arrived on the scene, word of the tragedy had already spread and a small crowd gathered in front of a house belonging to Patrick Monsanto. Moments earlier his nephew was playing on the verandah. Now the little boy will play no more thanks to a gunshot to the back of his head. The ambulance arrived at the home shortly after the murder and paramedics rushed one and a half year old Clemar Monsanto to the KHMH, accompanied by his father Clay and his uncle Patrick. Friends escorted the baby’s distraught mother to the hospital.
Meanwhile, A second victim had already been transported to the KHMH. Apparently, the unidentified child was passing by the Monsanto residence and got caught in the spray of lead. Although mortally wounded, the boy ran towards the next house and collapsed onthe street. The police gathered evidence, which included nine-millimetre casings on Monsanto’s verandah. Eyewitnesses, though they were afraid to speak on camera, believe that the assailants intentionally hunted and killed little Clemar as revenge against his father. Clay Monsanto is well known to police and frequently mentioned as a suspect in numerous crimes involving drugs and violence. Up to news time tonight, the suspects remain at large and the second child still lies unidentified in the morgue. Reporting for News 5, Jose Sanchez.
Late reports, unconfirmed by News 5, indicate that the second victim’s name is Francis Maximo. At news time the killers are still at large.
