BDF hosts open day on Saturday
The Belize Defense Force is celebrating its twenty-third anniversary by hosting an open day at Price Barracks in Ladyville. The event, which promises family oriented fun, starts with a parade and will include activities such as boxing and aerobatic flying. BDF Captain Raphael Martinez says that this affair is one that you can’t miss.

“We will be seeing during the course of the BDF Day, quite a few activities. We will be having karate display, greasy pole, greasy pig, we’ll be having all sorts of booths out there, for example various organisations around Belize City, the country. It’s only a dollar to enter the fair grounds tomorrow and by getting into the grounds, you will be given a ticket and with this ticket, for only a dollar you will be able to win up to twenty-five prizes. They range from a microwave, a pair of gold bangles, a six hundred pound cow, and the list goes on.”
“The mock battle is when we have like a forty-five built up position. We have some soldiers actually firing trying to take out this enemy position. We’ll be having smoke, you’ll be hearing bangs, you’ll be hearing a lot of firing down towards the enemy position and all the guys will be in camouflage and they are actually prepared for it, so I’m sure it will be a very good show out there tomorrow.”
Martinez says that transport from Belize City to Ladyville is free and buses will be leaving by the Belcan Bridge every hour starting at 10:00. However, it costs one dollar to enter the grounds at Price Barracks.
