Salvadoran Fugitive Busted in Bella Vista
A Salvadoran national wanted in his home country for participating in criminal activity described as domestic terrorism, was nabbed in Belize earlier this week. Police caught up with the fugitive in Bella Vista Village and are working with immigration authorities to deport him to El Salvador where he is expected to face charges. Bella Vista, a community in the south, has seen an increase in gang activity recently and the police department, in an effort to diffuse the buildup of criminal elements in the area, has assigned a pair of officers from the Anti-Gang Taskforce to work in the south.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“We had a Salvadoran who was wanted for local terrorism in Salvador. We have contacted our Salvadoran counterparts and they have confirmed that he is wanted and the matter is now in the hands of immigration. We are hoping that he is going to be expelled or given an Order to Leave and get him out of the country to go back to Salvador. And may I say that as we look at the expansion of gangs across the country, we have now assigned two members of the Anti-Gang Taskforce in Dangriga and they will be assigned with going after those gang members in Stann Creek District, primarily in the Bella Vista area.”

“Was he organizing gangs in Bella Vista?”
Chester Williams
“From what we understand, yes.”
Reporter
“Might that have had anything to do with the shooting over the weekend in that area?”
Chester Williams
“We think the shooting is different, it’s between two different persons. That was more domestic.”
