3rd Annual All Officers Conference Held in Belmopan
This morning at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan, senior officers from across the country gathered for an annual conference to address communication issues between management of the police department and its rank and file members. It’s the third of its kind assembly and today the department was joined by Crime Stoppers Belize which presented to the gathering on the use of mobile apps to share information on criminal activity. ComPol Williams explains.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“It is our third all officers conference and I’ve said after I assumed command of the department last year, that I want to ensure that we have a department that communicates constantly with the rank and file and especially with the senior officers who are the managers. If it is that you have an organization and there is no communication between managers, then it is going to create chaotic situations and then we want to ensure that we do as best as we can to make the department what we want it to in terms of the service that we offer to the public. We do have Crime Stoppers and they will be focusing on the issue as it relates to the P3 Tips app that was launched and that app was created with a view to have members of the public provide information to Crime Stoppers through that app without revealing their identity. And so that’s a very good thing for us in the sense that we want police officers to understand that whenever they get a call or a tip from Crime Stoppers as it relates to a crime that’s about to be committed or that has been committed that there is some urgency that they must take in responding to those tips and that is the reason why Crime Stoppers is here to speak to the officers to relay that information to them.”
