Senate Report on Immigration Yet to be Completed
We also found out that Senator Elena Smith’s patience is running thin. The senator says organizations are tired of waiting for U.D.P. Senator Aldo Salazar to present his report on the findings of the Auditor General’s Special Audit Report on the Immigration and Nationality Department. It took the Senate Special Select Committee thirteen months to interview witnesses, officials and even ministers. It has been more than two years since the hearings concluded in 2017, but Committee Chairman Salazar has yet to present a report.
Senator Elena Smith, National President, B.N.T.U.
“Somewhat, and persons might say well you are part of the committee as well. But at the end of the day, we keep saying that the rules are very clear. We have to wait for the report to be present to us for us to determine whether we accept it or file our own minority report. So as I said before, in my view there is nothing that I can do in terms of sending a report before getting that official report first and then determine if I agree with it or not. I think we are all patiently waiting. I think our organizations tired of waiting and they expect that something will be published very soon. The chairman in his wisdom has determined that he needs more time to do a proper reporting and so I guess there is nothing we can do unless wait for the chairman to present a report.”
