New police press officer begins job
After an extended period of less-than-ideal relations between the Police Department and the media, today marked the latest attempt at an improvement. Police Commissioner Hughington Williams and National Security CEO Alan Usher hosted a press briefing this afternoon to introduce G. Michael Reid as the department’s new public relation’s officer.

“Well I’d just like to say that we’re all on the same side as the P.S. has said and that we all want a safer Belize to live in and for our children to grow up in. That will depend upon not only the police, but on the community and indeed the media, so we all have a role to play. I’ll do the best I can to pass on information and to tell you exactly what is happening on this end. We hope that the media then will do their share and the community will step forward and let us all work together for a safer Belize.”
“The P.S. has assured us that he will do everything within his power to ensure that the information is forthcoming; the commissioner has also given his assurance. These are the two people that basically I go to if there is any problems, so if they have given assurance that they will do whatever is necessary.”
Reid, former co-host of FM 2000’s Breakfast Show and Channel 5 commentator, begins the first day of his new job on Thursday.
