G.O.B. Signs 10 Million-Dollar Education Programme with I.D.B.
The Government of Belize signed a ten-million dollar agreement with the I.D.B. this morning. At the signing, the I.D.B. Country Representative and PM Dean Barrow spoke about the educational quality improvement programme two which, aside from quality improvement, will encompass a new component on innovation on science and technology, arts, engineering and other mathematics. It’s a continuation of a previous programme which started at fifty percent of primary and high school to enhance the quality of education.

“To sign this with the government, this ten million dollar operation Education Quality Improvement Programme II which really seek to improve the quality and gender equity in education at the primary and secondary levels in Belize. You may recall, PM, that under the first operation which was completed with the excellent collaboration of the Ministry of Education and I want to thank them for their support. EQIP I had excellent learning outcomes due to a change in the methodology of learning, student-centered learning and which was applied to fifty percent of primary schools. Under this new operation, this same methodology is going to be applied to the other fifty percent of primary schools. In addition, it has a very important component related to innovation in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics at the secondary level; including the establishment of a STEAM Lab School which will be a hub, a center, a facility to allow young people at the secondary level to innovate. We are going to be working very closely with M.I.T. in this regard.”
