P.U.P. Wants Criminal Investigation into Lev Dermen’s Link to Belize
Musa says that if the messages or any other documents prove some level of criminality, public pressure will be applied on Commissioner of Police Chester Williams to launch a criminal investigation and seek prosecution of those involved.
Kareem Musa, Area Representative, Caribbean Shores
“If the evidence comes which I suspect it will in the form of documentary evidence we will then demand the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams to take investigative action against the parties who received this money, who received this twenty-five thousand U.S. month and who received other funds from Lev Dermen because those are proceeds of crimes being used in Belize. We are saying that there are stands of evidence out there that concern Belize that concern ministers of Government. For us to ignore that, that is gross dereliction of not just the Prime Minister but the Attorney General who has a duty under this act because they are trying to wash their hands of their obligation. They are saying, ‘we have no way of getting this evidence. Let’s close this chapter. Let’s just wait for a year or two from now when the Lev Dermen debacle is over or let’s wait until after election is what they really want to say.’ But they are trying to wash their hands. We are saying you cannot wash your hands, you have a duty because the name has been called and you need to get this evidence and if an investigation needs to take place, it needs to take place.”
