Jalsa Salana Comes Up on February 1st

Azhar Haneef

The sixth annual convention hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Belize will be held this Saturday at the ITVET here in Belize City.  Otherwise known as the Jalsa Salana, the gathering of the faithful will feature a keynote address by the Vice President and Missionary in Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in the United States and will accommodate persons of various religious and academic backgrounds.  This morning, a press conference was held to discuss the upcoming weekend activity.  Brother Azhar Haneef is the Vice President and Missionary in Charge of A.M.J. in the United States.

Azhar Haneef, Keynote Speaker

“So this is a community that’s focusing on the humanity and the brotherhood as the hallmark, again, of a believer and in this gathering as, again, I’ve come from the United States of America.  I believe in the past years people have come from Canada and different neighboring countries and if you attend our gathering in the United Kingdom almost all nations of the world are being represented in that gathering, a brotherhood of humankind.  As we say, we are a global family, a global village.  How do you achieve that unless you come together and remove those superficial barriers of distinction that makes us feel we are different because of our ethnicity, our culture, our language, our identity as such and be part of a broader human family and connect with one another on a spiritual level so that brotherhood will exist as we move from that gathering.  This is the real goal of Jalsa Salana, our annual convention, to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of our creator and to develop a deeper relationship with each other, brotherhood and sisterhood at the highest levels so that we walk away united in heart and soul and being and become a true member of the global family of mankind.  And if we can achieve that I believe there will be more peace and justice in this world without even having to force the issue in any world body or any national law the goal of Jalsa Salana.”
