Former U.D.P. City Council Operated on $800K Net Deficit, says Bernard Wagner

Darrell Bradley

The Belize City Council today hosted the media for a breakfast meeting as a way to mend relations. We’ll tell you how that went later on in the newscast but first, we go to the bit of information that Mayor Bernard Wagner shared of the council when it was under the mayorship of Darrell Bradley.  The council, under Mayor Bernard Wagner, commissioned an audit as part of the rollout process of its municipal bond. Wagner said that between 2017 and 2018, the former U.D.P. city council operated in a net deficit of more than half a million dollars. He says that after taking office, his council managed to achieve a turnaround by increasing revenue and cutting expenditure.

Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor

“In the period 2017 and ending March 2018, the council which is the council led by Darrell Bradley and his group operated in a net deficit of eight hundred thousand dollars. Net deficit. So that means that they spent more what they were getting in income. The period 2018 and concluding 2019, April first 2018 to March 2019 will show one full year under out administration that we have been able to swing from an eight hundred thousand deficit to a four point five surplus meaning that we have brought in more revenue and we have cut expenditure. I am not saying it. It will be shown to you from the external audit.”
