Murder Trial of Louis Carter Wraps Up

The Prosecution and Defense Counsels in the murder trial of twenty-six year-old Louis Carter wrapped up their closing arguments today before Supreme Court Justice, Colin Young, and Carter’s fate will be known on February thirteenth. Carter is accused of the shooting murder of mechanic, thirty year-old Dwayne Hyde on July thirty, 2016 in Hyde’s yard in the Escalante Subdivision of San Pedro Town. Carter gave an unsworn statement from the dock in Court today, and said that on the day of the incident, shortly after midnight on July thirteenth, 2016, he was in Hyde’s yard and saw Hyde pull out a gun and point it at him. Fearing for his life, Carter said he ran when the man stepped towards him.  But the man caught up to him and they soon started to struggle for the gun, which discharged, shooting Hyde in the abdomen.  During the struggle Hyde, who also reportedly had a screw driver on him, inflicted wounds to Carter’s neck, mouth and abdomen. The official report however, is that Carter went to Hyde’s yard to settle a dispute and the two got into an argument, then a fight, which resulted in the shooting and stabbing.  Hyde died two weeks later from the injury.  The defense, represented by Senior Counsel, Simeon Sampson, called no witnesses to testify on Carter’s behalf in the trial without a jury.  The case was presented by Crown Counsel, Shanice Lovell.
