Steel Pans for the U.B., the Belize Bank Grants a Generous Donation

The University of Belize has received a generous donation to start up the “UB Steel.”  The donation of fifty thousand dollars was made by the Belize Bank at the end of January and will be used to acquire the necessary pans for the steel band. U.B. says the initiative paves the way for the development of a pathway for those students interested in music and wish to take on academic or technical careers or to hone their skills in music performance at the national university.  U.B.’s goal is to build a music programme that will not only develop the creative arts, but also provide students with opportunities to pursue fulfilling careers in music industries, and become major contributor to the on-going articulation of the Belizean cultural identity.  The donation was presented to President Clement Sankat by Lyndon Guiseppi, the Executive Chairman of the Belize Bank.
