ComPol Begins Tour; First Stop San Pedro
The Commissioner of Police Chester Williams commenced his official tour of the country. His first stop was in the islands of Caye Caulker and San Pedro, comprising the jurisdiction of the Coastal Executive Unit, which is headed by Superintendent Christopher Noble. Now, since the double murder of San Pedro tour guide Mario Graniel and American Doctor, Gary Swank back in July of 2019, the island has been relatively quiet; recording an overall reduction in major crimes. Williams says it is a reflection of the collaboration between the community and the police department on the islands.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“The purpose of the tour is just as we did last year; where we go and meet the officers and explain to them what were our achievements and shortcomings for last year and to chart the way forward for 2020 in terms of what is expected of them as police officers, to be able to give the public the level of policing that they so rightly deserve. And so our meeting was very helpful; it was very informative and I had high praises for the officers in the coastal areas. The coast guard continues to be a part of our operational strategy in terms of looking at the waterways with the lagoon side and the seaside. They do joint patrols with the police in those areas looking at the playadores and those who walk the beaches looking for drugs. So that too is going pretty good for us.”
