Lights installed at Barracks

Story Picture
The lights are coming on in one of Belize City’s dark but popular areas. No it’s not Lover’s Lane that is now in the spotlight, but another part of the Barracks area that’s across from the Mexican Cultural Institute and next to the Princess Hotel. The City Council has put up some fancy lamps as part of a face-lift for the old capital’s sometimes seedy seaside.

Paco Smith, Public Relations Manager, BCC

“The Belize City Council in conjunction with the Belize Tourism Board has embarked in an effort to beautify certain areas across the city. In particular, we’ve done some work out in the barracks area. It’s sometimes referred to as Sand Lighter Park. What was done out there is that we?ve placed approximately fifteen lights and thirty benches and we?re going to do some more beautification. The primary reason is that we?re looking towards beautifying the city not only for tourists, but also for the residents. As we all know you can be a tourist in your own country or city.”

Smith says that the City Council is also planning to revamp the area of the two roundabouts on the Northern Highway.
