Did U.D.P. Delegates Get Lands?
The recently elected Deputy Leader of the U.D.P. and newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Belize, Hugo Patt, today lost his cool at a reporter. Patt was exiting the Prime Minister’s emergency press conference at the Sir Edney Cain Building when he was asked about reports that U.D.P. delegates were sold caye lands for one thousand dollars. As first, Patt said he was not aware of the reports but later snapped when the reporter pressed on the issue.
Reporter
“Sir we received reports that delegates receive caye land bought for a thousand dollars, or sold to them for a thousand dollars. Is that true?”
Hugo Patt, Deputy Prime Minister
“I don’t know, ma’am.”
Reporter
“You look shaken.”
Hugo Patt
“Marisol, I will answer you because you like distort my information. There is a policy where and is issued at a set price. I think a cabinet decision was taken to that effect. All we are doing in complying. I don’t see any issue of a Belizean getting a piece of land and paying the price that all people pay. What is the issue with that?”
Reporter
“A Cabinet decision to what effect?”
Hugo Patt
“I will give you a piece of land too; don’t worry.”
