P.S.U. President Comments on Supreme Court Ruling
The Supreme Court has struck out the claim by the Public Service Union against Simplex Design Limited. The union had filed a lawsuit against the Belmopan City Council, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Simplex Design Limited over its Hilltop headquarters. The court ruled that Simplex Design is the legal owner of the property, but according to President Gerald Henry, the union’s case against the City Council is still before the courts. According to Henry, the union has not received any eviction orders and is in negotiation with the company to allow them to property vacate the property.
Gerald Henry, President, P.S.U.
“The position where we are right now is that we are still in court. As you heard, Simplex has been removed from the case which basically means that the court has essentially regarded Simplex as the owners. In regards to the eviction, we have not had no such notice per say from Simplex based on what the lawyer had said. We actually have not had eviction notice from there. We are also in negotiation with them in fact to look at affording us some time to evacuate the building when that time comes. Eventually some time down the road we perceive that to happen because the court seems to be taking the side that Simplex is the actual legal owners. With regards with the other side of it in terms of the relationship that we have with the Belmopan City Council and our case against them because remember we had case against the Belmopan City Council that is ongoing. We are looking positive in that regard.”
