Ex-con sought in robberies
Belize City Police are searching hard for Deon Hyde-Smith, the suspect wanted in connection with a spate of shootings and robberies of Chinese owned shops on Boxing Day in Belize City. Twenty-three year old Hyde-Smith is no stranger to crime and punishment. He was convicted of attempted carnal knowledge and robbery in October 1995 and was given a ten-year sentence, of which he served five years. According to Prison Governor Bernard Adolphus, Hyde-Smith was released on December first. Police are asking you to assist them in finding the suspect whom they believe shot shopkeepers on West Canal and Mex Avenue and robbed a grocery shop in the King’s Park Area of the city. Hyde-Smith is slimly built, of dark complexion and stands five feet seven inches tall.
