Patrick Faber Reflects on Chaotic Convention Aftermath

There is a renewed call for unity within the fractured United Democratic Party following a week of turmoil that has seen its elected party leader ousted from the post less than three days after being voted in overwhelmingly by the U.D.P. delegates.  While Faber is still on the fence with his candidacy, he urges members of the party to put aside internal differences in an attempt to win a fourth consecutive term.

On the Phone: Patrick Faber, Area Representative, Collet

“Well the turnout on Sunday was a marvelous turnout so I will begin there, that I think that despite the outcome and particularly the outcome for me was a wonderful display of support for the United Democratic Party as I was pleased to see all the supporters who came from all corners of this country.  So in that respect it was a wonderful day for the U.D.P. and I am in a way very disheartened by much of the events that followed the wonderful day that we had.  It’s never a happy time for me when the kind of happenings, we’ve seen the resignation of our party leader elect and also a Cabinet colleague leave the Cabinet and while some may believe that this should be cause for me to rejoice, I certainly don’t rejoice in that.  It is rather unfortunate and it is never something good for the wider party.  So in that sense I think our party has indeed taken a blow.  Also, when there is this perceived idea of wrongdoing, that never works well for our party and so all in all I think that these events following Sunday are not events that we can say we wish never happened to our party.”
