Lions honour New Years baby at KHMH

Story Picture
There is some difference of opinion over whether this year or last
marks the real beginning of the millennium, but one thing we’re sure of
is the identity of the first Belizean born this year at the Karl Heusner
Memorial Hospital. Ann-Marie spoke to the proud parents.

Ann-Marie Williams, Reporting

The New Year was only ten hours old when the KHMH heard the cry of
its first newborn. Proud mother, eighteen-year-old Daisy Mejia Trapp, a
domestic of Ladyville, says her eight-pound boy was a New Year surprise.

Daisy Mejia-Trapp, Mother

“It’s the first day of the year and I’m happy that my baby is
also the first baby of the year. It’s a good baby. The delivery was
normal and quick. I came in and he was born.”

Roland Trapp, the thirty-one year-old dad, who work’s at Nova Shrimp
Farm, says although he already had two sons, one more won’t hurt.

Roland Trapp, Father

“I satisfy with the baby I get for the new year, the first day of
the new year. I feel good. I said whatever came was good. It’s my family
so…”

Mejia-Trapp’s baby was delivered by nurse Sharon Gladden with
assistance from nurse Bernadine Brown of the Karl Heusner Memorial
Hospital.

As is customary, the first baby born in the city for the New Year
receives a hamper of baby supplies from the Belize City Lions Club. This
year the Santiago Group of Companies joined forces with Lions and gave
all the mothers who gave birth on New Year’s Day a pack of Cheekies
Diapers.
