Holiday traffic puts city in gridlock
Trying to choose a Christmas gift is difficult enough, but trying to do it amidst the worst traffic jams in Belize City history is a special challenge. Jacqueline Woods took a walk downtown to see just how bad things were.

It’s probably one of the best times of year to parked your vehicle and run your errands on foot. It was bumper to bumper in downtown Belize City as Albert and Regent Streets were congested with the annual Christmas traffic jam.
The traffic warden’s hands did their best to make traffic move smoothly, but the going was slow. Fortunately while drivers may have been frustrated by the delays, there was remarkably little anger on the streets.
Traffic Warden
“It’s kind of hectic, but we have to do the job.”
Jacqueline Woods
“No accidents this morning?”
Traffic Warden
“No, everybody’s cooperating.”
The drivers say the streets are just too small for the growing volume of traffic.

“Good morning sir, what you think about the traffic?”

“Rough.”
Jacqueline Woods
“Why to you think it always get hectic this time of the year?”
Driver #1
“Everyone is shopping.”
Jacqueline Woods
“And you guys are always driving right, it must be very frustrating for you.”

“Yes, very frustrating”
Driver #2
“It’s too tight, they have to make more space for the big fish, fat cat. We just came from L.A. and we want space in this place. They’ve got to renovate this place bigger than this, Belize has to open up, these streets are too small.”
Driver #3
“It’s very busy, very congested and the streets are a little too small all of a sudden.”
City traffic should ease on the weekend and drivers are asked to keep up their good manners. Reporting for News Five, I am Jacqueline Woods
