John Saldivar is Still a U.D.P.
Turning to the issue that has been dominating the news since the start of the year… What is the future of disgraced politician John Saldivar with the United Democratic Party, following his ouster as its newly elected leader last Thursday? News Five is reliably informed that all thirty-one area representatives and standard bearers are meeting with Prime Minister Dean Barrow on Thursday morning in Belmopan to chart a way forward for the beleaguered ruling party. It is expected that Saldivar, who also resigned from cabinet last week, will be in attendance as the duly elected representative for Belmopan. U.D.P. Chairman Michael Peyrefitte told us late on Tuesday that Saldivar remains an active member of the party, despite his fall from grace.

“Now as the chairman of the United Democratic Party, where do you guys stand in respect of John Saldivar? Has there been any contemplation as to what happens next insofar as his political ambitions with the organization?”
Michael Peyrefitte, Chairman, United Democratic Party
“No. John Saldivar is a member of the United Democratic Party. We have not expelled him from the party and ‘less we forget, he is still the member for Belmopan. There’s nothing that anybody can do about that except for the people in Belmopan or John Saldivar himself. He has clearly stated his continuing interest in Belmopan and we all don’t have a problem with that, so he resigned from Cabinet, he resigned from party leader but he is still the member for Belmopan and I expect him to continue to be the member for Belmopan for years to come.”
