BEL staff spreads Christmas cheer

Story Picture
For today at least, it seems that Santa Claus has replaced his elves and reindeers with the staff and vehicles of Belize Electricity Limited. In all the districts, BEL employees accompanied by St. Nick have been helping families by supplying them with hampers filled with food and other goodies. We caught up with the jolly crew as they made their way through the St. Martin de Porres neighbourhood in Belize City.

Diana Forman, Public Relations Officer

“Last year we provided Christmas hampers for thirty-four needy families. And this year we have increased on that, we are actually doing forty-four families countrywide. We are giving seventeen hampers to the districts, and in Belize city we are doing twenty-seven. This drive initially started with employees putting together contributions that they felt was worthy of giving to families who were are in need out there around this time, Christmas time, being a time for giving. And altogether, they have…that figure that they gave which came up to about three thousand nine hundred dollars, the company decided to match.”

Ivette Lynch

“I think it’s something good. Maybe some people?s spirit was down for Christmas and that could build up their spirits. I feel good about it because every time I ask how I don’t get anything from anybody when Christmas come.”

This is the fifth year of BEL’s Christmas drive.
