Rotary honours elderly
We’re not sure whether it’s increased attention from the media or a genuine increase in society’s concern for the elderly, but it seems that our seniors are being feted like never before. On Sunday another major Christmas bashment was held, this time courtesy of Rotary.

Spreading Christmas cheer at this time of year for the elderly and the young at heart is not just the thing to do, it?s become a tradition for the Belize Rotary Club. That practice was repeated on Sunday when seniors were treated to a traditional Christmas dinner and party. Rotarian Alberto Young organised the event.

“Well about thirty-years ago the Rotary Club felt that many senior citizens in Belize were forgotten. Many of those who cannot walk or cannot come out of their homes, had no one to care for them and bring cheer and joy. So the idea for a senior citizen Christmas lunch and party was brought about.”
That Christmas lunch and party brought smiles to the faces of over 300 men and women including the shut?ins who were given food packages and gifts.

“We had Santa Claus junior and senior. We had the Pantempters Steel Band music and Mr. Peter’s Boom and Chime. We gave prizes to the eldest male and female who attended the event, the best bruk down and waltz dancers, both male and female as well.”
The annual Christmas luncheon was held at Landivar Gym in Belize City. Ann-Marie Williams for News 5.
