‘Call Elections Now!’

The People’s United Party’s massive demonstration on Sunday culminated at Battlefield Park in downtown Belize City hours after its start. The crowd flooded the area of the Supreme Court spilling into Albert and Regent Streets. There, thousands were addressed by leaders of the party. The fiery messages focused on corruption in the U.D.P. government, change, people’s power and the demand for an early general election. The dynamic speakers energized the crowd and called for Prime Minister Dean Barrow to call elections now.

“I know Mister Barrow and the U.D.P. are watching this. They know that their days are numbered. The U.D.P…..their days are number. So what do we say? Call the election…”

Crowd

“…now!”

Kareem Musa, Area Rep., Caribbean Shores

“You all are making me weak in my knees. You are so blue-tiful! My brothers and sisters there is no power greater than the power of the people. And there is no party greater or better than the People’s United Party. You have come out in numbers, in thousand fifteen thousand today strong to send a message to Dean Barrow and his criminals that we are tired, we have had enough and it is time for the People’s United Party.”

Julius Espat

Julius Espat, Area Representative, Cayo South

“We are asking for fairness. We are asking you to do your job and if you don’t do your job the people of Belize will do their job. We are not playing any games. You know why we are not afraid. We are in front of the Supreme Court of Belize. We are not afraid. We are in the streets in Belize. We are not afraid. You know why we are not afraid because Belize is for Belizeans and we want to be treated fairly.”

Cordel Hyde

Cordel Hyde, Area Representative, Lake Independence e

“You know that after this massive crowd, there is no way that the Prime Minister is going to call elections right now, right? Because he knows that if he calls it tomorrow, or the day after, or the day after, or the next week, month, year whenever they call it they are going home. We are not out here today because it is Sunday and we believe in miracles. We are out here today because we are tired of sitting back and we have decided that the time to stand up is now.”

John Briceño

John Briceño, Leader, P.U.P.

“It was good that the unions went out on Thursday because then Dean Barrow can also know that even the unions are tired of the U.D.P.  It is even better now because the U.D.P. cannot say that the unions bring out the people. This is the power of the blue machine, ladies and gentlemen. They fooled us in 2008. They tricked us in 2012. The bought the elections in 2015 but 2020…are you ready? So they can come with any trick because we are tired. We want hope. We want a government and will be creating jobs for the Belizean people, a government that will en sure that your children are going to go to school, a government is going to fight crime, a government that will stop all the plane landings, a government that will make sure that whosoever is stilling they will go, to where?”

Crowd

“Jail!”

John Briceño

“Exactly! We have come out over then thousand strong. And we are saying in one voice, ‘Basta ya!” Enough is enough of the U.D.P.  And we are saying in one voice: call the elections…”
