YMCA hosts family games at City Centre

Story Picture
Do you remember playing games like red light, blue light, 123, or rabbit, rabbit find a hole? Well, if you don’t its time you learned once again, but this time with your children or grandchildren. The Young Men’s Christian Association is putting together a fun filled evening called a Ball-A-Fair. After school Wednesday evening, the Belize City Centre will be the playground for those who want to experience some old and new games in a city that provides precious few family oriented activities.

Carolyn Gentle, Executive Director YMCA

“We’re expecting everybody to come out, kids, relatives, friends, nieces nephews. Bring out as much kids as you can, if you don’t have your own grab your neighbour?s kids and say okay, we are going to the Ball-A-Fair to have fun. It’s going to be a lot of theme building activities as well as the traditional games you would play at a fair, but with just balls.”

Jose Sanchez

“What kind of ball games will you be playing?”

Carolyn Gentle

“Generally it would be the basketball hoop, as well as bozo the clown, jacks and balls and the list goes on. I won’t be able to list all of them, but there will be a lot of games the kids can play and a lot of it entails theme building and the opportunity for parents to come actually have fun with their kids. Rather than generally just letting the TV do the baby sitting, they’ll spend a couple extra hours with them.”

“So what we’ve done is try to do a catch all with this ball affair so kids will still be able to have fun and YMCA can still continue build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.”

Gentle says there will be an entrance fee of fifty cents, which will go towards the YMCA’s building efforts. Though the event ends at eight in the night, the police and school wardens will be providing adequate security.
