Carl Reneau on Trial for Murder
The murder trial of Carl Reneau adjourned this afternoon after defense attorney Baja Shoman informed the court that she intends to make a no case submission. The crown, defense, accused and presiding judge paid a visit to the scene of the incident where fifteen-year-old Jaheem Mahler, a student of Gateway Youth Center, was gunned down on January eighteenth, 2017. Mahler was riding a bicycle in the company of two friends on Iguana Street Extension when someone shot him eight times in the chest, face, hands and feet. Crown witness, Jaelyn Neal told the court that she was heading to buy at a nearby shop when she heard what first sounded like fire cracker. She saw three persons ride by on bicycles and heard the same sounds again and realized it was gunshots. Neal said she and her brother hid between two vehicles until the gunfire subsided and ran home. Police had recovered a black nine millimetre pistol, which they believe was the weapon used, from a drain.
