BCVI raises funds with Christmas cards

This Christmas, the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired, BCVI, is inviting the general public to support its annual programmes for the blind by purchasing greeting cards made by one of their clients. Ten-year old Brendano Choco, who has been blind since birth, designed the card while he was at camp this past summer. Henry Lanza, BCVI’s organisational coordinator, says each year they provide educational materials for their visually impaired clients to produce items like Christmas cards. Lanza says they are proud of the work young Choco has done.

“Every year we have an arts class during the summer camp programme. The children are assisted by the volunteers who come in and they come up and they design different sketches not only for Christmas but different art programmes they do, and one of the things we aim at getting out is a design for Christmas cards. So every year we have been doing it for the last four years. This year we came up with an excellent design of Santa Claus made out of wool. This was done by one of our clients Brendano Choco, a student in Blue Creek in the Toledo District and he has been with us from a baby in our early stimulation programme and he has helped us to come up with this Christmas card for this year.”

You can pick up a pack of twelve cards for only fifteen dollars at BCVI on Gabourel Lane in Belize City or field offices countrywide.
